A Must Try Spicy Barbeque Beer Brat Recipe - No Grilling Required

This recipe was really surprising.  So simple and easy--just throw everything in the slow cooker (after you brown the brats) and it was spicy, sweet and complex.  Delicious!!
Spicy BBQ Beer Brats
A must try no-grill beer brat recipe:

TOTAL TIME: Prep: 15 min. Cook: 6 hours
MAKES: 10 servings

  • 2 bottles (12 ounces each) beer (We used an amber and a fruity Belgian IPA)
  • 1 bottle (18 ounces) barbecue sauce  (We used Sweet Baby Ray's Original)
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 large sweet onion, halved and sliced
  • 1 large sweet yellow pepper, cut into strips
  • 1 large sweet orange pepper, cut into strips
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 serrano pepper, thinly sliced  (We used the hole thing but cut out most of the seeds)
  • 10 uncooked bratwurst links
  • 10 brat or hot dog buns

  1. Place the first eight ingredients in a 5-qt. slow cooker; stir to combine. In a large skillet, brown bratwurst on all sides over medium-high heat; transfer to slow cooker.
  2. Cook, covered, on low 6-8 hours or until sausages are cooked through and vegetables are tender. Using tongs, serve bratwurst and pepper mixture on buns. Yield: 10 servings.
